Houghton, MI Lift Bridge
The Houghton-Hancock lift bridge was
built in 1959. It is a double-deck vertical lift bridge and
according to
michigan.gov, is the only one of it's kind in the state. The
bridge was built to accommodate ship traffic which uses the Portage
Canal, the body of water which separates the towns of Houghton and
Hancock.
